I know, the title sounds a little wacky, but this is what I've been doing for the past 2 weeks. My daughters, ages 6 and 9, have asked to have their own blog. After a lot of careful consideration I decided to allow it. Both of their blogs are private, do not allow annonymous comments and only family members have the addresses (and a few close friends that might as well be family members!!) and everyone has promised not link to them or tell anyone about them. I designed their backgrounds and act as moderator (not allowing them to publish any post without Mommy's approval!!) and things have worked out much better than I anticipated.
Knowing my children's short attention span, I thought it would be a one time thing...turns out they are just as obsessed with their blogs as I am about mine!!! Go figure!! Turns out it has become a great learning experience! Both have their own cameras (old digitals of mine and their grandmothers!) so they are taking pictures of their world and experiences (just like their mommy does!!), uploading them and explaining them. I love their perspective on all things!! They are also drawing more pictures and uploading them. It's practicing writing skills: spelling, grammar and creative writing. I love, they love and the family love it!! The girls love getting comments from family and friends: especially from those in far off places! It's turning into a sort of online scrapbook/journal!
